[ARCHIVED] WM Automated Trash Collection Begins This Week

North Huntington

Automated collection begins this week with WM. Please make sure to place your carts out for collection and to follow these guidelines.

1.) Place all waste in your black WM trash cart for collection if you are on the Regular Collection option or on the Senior Discount Cart option. No trash will be collected outside of your cart unless you are on the Senior One Bag Collection option.

2.) You must only use the trash carts provided by WM for collection unless you are on the Senior One Bag Collection option. All residents must use the blue recycling cart provided by WM for collection.

3.) Only the Senior One Bag Collection option allows for purchasing collection of additional trash bags.

4.)  If you are on the Regular Collection option and need to put out more trash than what fits in the provided 96 gallon black trash cart, you will need to purchase an additional cart from WM at a rate of $6 per month.

5.) Yard waste collection (for grass clippings, etc.) will occur during designated weeks. More information to come.

6.) Bulk waste collection is limited to one bulk item per month and will occur on the SECOND FULL WEEK of the month on your scheduled collection day. Collection of additional bulk items or if you need a bulk item collected outside of your collection day, will need to be scheduled with WM. The dates are listed on your welcome letter or can be viewed online at

7.) Recyclables should be placed loosely in your blue WM recycling cart. Recyclables should not be bagged. No recyclables outside of your cart will be collected. Recyclables include plastic bottles, jugs, jars, and tubs, food and beverage cans, paper, flattened cardboard and paperboard, and glass bottles and containers.

8.) Place your WM carts at the curb by 6AM the day of your collection.

9.) Cart handles should be pointed away from the street

10.) Your cart should be placed on the opposite side of your driveway from your mailbox if possible and not blocked by any object like cars or tree limbs.

11.) Keep at least a 3ft. distance between your recycling and trash cart
